Final Thoughts
The University of Calabar's swift action in disowning the impostor posing as "Prof. Odong" is a welcome reminder of the importance of vigilance against fraud in Nigeria's education sector.
The suspect's alleged scheme — contacting students, claiming their results are poor, and demanding money to "improve" them — preys on the anxieties of students who may be desperate to pass their examinations. By publicising the scam and providing the phone number and location of the suspect, UNICAL is helping to protect its students and warn others.
The university's message is clear: there is no "Prof. Odong" in its ICT unit, results cannot be altered by paying money, and any such communication should be reported immediately.
