WAEC CBT Requirements for Schools
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released critical infrastructure requirements for schools preparing to host computer-based testing (CBT) ahead of the 2026 full migration. Below is a refined table that clearly separates what is mandatory from what schools are encouraged to implement for best results.
Requirement Details NPS Recommendation
Minimum Computers 250 functional laptops/desktops + 10% backup capacity (≈25 units) Maintain at least 15% backup; rotate equipment to reduce downtime.
(Laptop Preferably, With windows 10 or 11, Antivirus is essential)

Specification:
Hp or Dell Laptops, Intel base processor( Core 2 Duo or Higher) 4GB RAM or Higher, 128-512GB HDD or SSD, 14" screen size, With at least Windows 10, LAN Port (RJ45 Port), Antivirus is Essential
Network Server & LAN Robust server and secure LAN to support all machines simultaneously Partition a room for server with Air conditioning (Server Specification: Dell Server, Intel Xeon, 32GB RAM, 512GB-1TB, Win 11, Licensed Antivirus) with 19 inches ultra wide Monitor
Networking: Cat 6a, 10Gbps, 500MHz Network Cable, RJ45
Switch: DLINK or CISCO Switch with Switch Rack
Ensure your server and switches are connected to a UPS/Inverter to prevent power outages.
Power Infrastructure Uninterrupted power supply + ≥40 kVA backup generator Good Laptops with Strong Batteries will save you more. However, We Recommend you have a backup generator  as well.

Facility Conditions Air-conditioned and brightly lit exam halls Ensure HVAC redundancy and LED lighting to optimize focus and reduce costs.
Security Measures Functional CCTV coverage of exam halls DVR HIKVISION AHD Camera Hikvision 1080 5MP 32 channel DVR machine, Implement cloud backup for recordings and assign security roles.
Candidate Management Designated holding or reception area for examinees Use clear signage and time schedules to manage flow efficiently.
