How to Apply for a Canada Student Visa from Nigeria (2025 Guide)

Planning to study in Canada as a Nigerian student? You’ll need to apply for a Canadian Study Permit (student visa). Below is a clear step-by-step guide to help you secure your visa successfully.

1. Get Your Admission Letter

You must first gain admission into a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. The admission letter is a mandatory requirement for your visa application.

2. Prepare Your Supporting Documents

Ensure you have the following:
  • Valid international passport
  • Passport photographs (as per Canadian specifications)
  • Proof of acceptance (admission letter from a DLI)
  • Proof of financial support (bank statements, scholarship letters, or sponsor’s letter)
  • Medical examination results (if required)
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Statement of purpose (why you want to study in Canada)
  • Academic transcripts and certificates

3. Apply Online via IRCC

Visit the IRCC website to create an account and submit your application. You will need to upload all your documents and pay the visa fee.
Visa application fee: CAD $150 (subject to change).

4. Provide Biometrics

You will receive a request to visit the Canada Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Lagos or Abuja to provide your fingerprints and photograph.

5. Wait for Processing

Visa processing can take several weeks. You may also be invited for an interview at the Canadian Embassy if necessary. Keep checking your IRCC account for updates.

6. Prepare for Your Trip

Once approved, you will receive your Study Permit. Ensure you carry all original documents, including your visa approval letter, when traveling to Canada.
Key Tip: Apply early—at least 3–6 months before your school resumes—to avoid delays.
