JAMB Clarifies It Has No Role in HND Admissions or NYSC Mobilisation

JAMB HND NYSC mobilisation clarification

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially stated that it is **not responsible for admissions into Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes or the mobilisation of HND graduates into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)**. The clarification was made by JAMB’s Registrar in response to concerns raised by polytechnic students who had attributed mobilisation challenges to the examination body. 0}

Quick Insight: JAMB says its mandate covers only admissions into first‑degree, National Diploma (ND), and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes — not HND admissions or NYSC mobilisation data.

What JAMB Has Clarified

During a meeting with the National Association of Polytechnic Students, JAMB Registrar **Prof. Is‑haq Oloyede** explained that the Board does not handle the admission of students into HND programmes and therefore does not have the required data to facilitate mobilisation of HND graduates into the NYSC scheme.

Students’ Complaints and Clarification

Some polytechnic graduates have faced difficulties in being mobilised for the NYSC, especially those who pursued **part‑time or non‑regular ND programmes** before progressing to HND. These graduates often encounter challenges when the Corps requires data indicating they studied full‑time — something JAMB does not provide for HND programmes.

JAMB’s Mandate Explained

The Registrar emphasised that JAMB’s legal responsibilities include conducting entrance examinations and processing admissions for undergraduate courses, ND, and NCE — but **not HND admissions**. Any admission into HND programmes is handled directly by the institutions offering them.

Irregular Admissions and Data Issues

Prof. Oloyede also raised concerns about irregular admission practices in some polytechnics, including cases where more ND candidates were admitted than permitted. Such irregularities can complicate mobilisation for NYSC if proper data is unavailable or improperly handled.

Final Thoughts

JAMB’s clarification aims to clear up misunderstandings among polytechnic graduates about its role in HND admissions and NYSC mobilisation. Students experiencing mobilisation issues are encouraged to seek support from their institutions or relevant authorities, as JAMB’s mandate remains focused on examinations and admission into prescribed programmes.
Tip: If you’re facing issues with NYSC mobilisation after graduation, ensure your admission and academic records were properly processed by your institution — JAMB’s data only covers ND, not HND programmes.
