BOUESTI's History
The University was established on October 16, 2020, following its upgrade from a College of Education to a full-fledged University. This milestone marked a significant transformation in its academic and institutional status. Shortly after, the University received its operational license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on November 6, 2020, granting it the authority to commence academic and administrative operations.
Every great institution is built on the shoulders of visionary leaders. The foundation for effective leadership was laid with the appointment of the pioneer principal officers on January 6, 2021.
This was followed by another landmark achievement when the NUC approved 45-degree programmes for the University on March 31, 2021, setting the stage for academic excellence.
The journey of the University as an institution of higher learning fully commenced with the resumption of the pioneer set of students on July 12, 2021, young minds brimming with dreams, stepping into a world of limitless possibilities. This inaugural cohort of students formally took their place in the academic community during the Maiden Matriculation Ceremony on October 6, 2021, where 2,401 students were matriculated.
In recognition of its academic potential and to further expand its educational reach and offerings, the NUC approved an additional 33 degree programmes for the University in June 2023, bringing the total number of programmes offered to 78. Notably, some of these programmes are rarely offered in other Universities, making the institution a unique and strategic player in the nation’s educational landscape.
Despite its relatively young age, the University soared beyond national borders and quickly rose to global prominence, earning accolades and recognition for its contributions to education, research and societal development. One of its most remarkable achievements came on March 24, 2023, when it was honored with the prestigious award of the Most Outstanding University of Education in Africa. This recognition solidified its position as a leading centre for academic excellence and innovation.
Like the Northern Star guiding sailors through stormy seas, the motto of the University, “Learning for Self-Reliance,” encapsulates its commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also equipped with skills for independent and sustainable livelihood. Its vision is one of audacity and ambition while its mission stands as a clarion call to progress. Through these guiding principles, the University remains dedicated to academic excellence, research innovation and societal impact, positioning itself as a beacon of knowledge and self-reliance in higher education.
This University is not just an institution, it is a movement. With each passing day, it reaffirms its place among the greats, proving that from humble beginnings can rise a giant whose legacy will echo through generations.
